Alterations

Expert dress alterations by our on-site seamstress

Now that you have the dress, it is time to make it your own by altering the dress perfectly to your body. Weddings 826 offers on-site alterations available for brides with our own in-house seamstress who has altered over 300 dresses with Weddings 826! Be sure to budget for good alterations (whether you have them done with us or a different seamstress/tailor you trust) since the prices can easily run $400 and higher depending on the difficulty and the amount of changes that will take place. It can be expensive but proper fit is not an area to compromise.

The alterations process usually starts about two or three months before your wedding date. It is important not to start too early as (like it or not) brides tend to gain or lose weight as the wedding day approaches. Allow an additional 2 weeks if you have decided to dry clean your gown prior to the wedding. Our local brides have 2-3 week spacing between fittings, but you may choose once a month or whatever works with your schedule.

Normally our brides have an initial consultation to create a check list of everything to be altered on the gown. Basic alterations are side seams (letting out and taking in), hem, bustle, and built in bra cups (standard 2-3 fittings), cutting-off/shortening the train, slimming in the skirt, making a sweetheart neckline, lowering the back, adding/taking away buttons, etc., will require more fittings. The consultation at that time will allow time for choosing accessories/veils, if you wish to do so!

At your final fitting, you will choose a pickup date: the date that your dress will be completed: stuffed with tissue in a cardboard bust form, steamed, threads cut everything will be ready for the big day and your gown is perfect! This usually takes place on the way out of town or on your way to the rehearsal dinner.

Please call us with any other questions and to schedule your first meeting with the seamstress.

What To Bring For An Alterations Appointment

Getting the most from your Alterations appointment

Bring someone with you to help you make decisions as far as altering the dress (shortening train or changing the design), at least for your initial and final fittings.

Please find your shoes, they are not as easy to find as you may think!

Bring anything you are planning to wear on your wedding day, including any type of bustier/spanx, etc. We suggest sewing bra cups directly into the dress because it looks more natural and feels more secure.

And bring your accessories if you would like to try them on with the gown!
